So, we recently just completed some "minor" contstruction on our house. Although it was a small project it was a BIG inconvenience and a BIG mess! But, it is completed now and I am a much happier woman! :) The company that built our home has run into problems with cracking along the ceiling and walls where some trusses meet and where the two outside walls meet. Anyways....they went up into our attic last year and reinforced it and touched up the cracks. Last time it was a nightmare with subcontractors not showing up when scheduled, then showing up without scheduling at 6:30 pm, then they used the wrong paint, and yada, yada, yada...it was no fun.
So, you can imagine my frustration when this January we came home from Christmas only to find the cracks were back and worse than before. After lots of discussions Kartchner, our builder, came back with their solution and thus began some crazy couple of weeks. Lets just say that I was so tired of workers in and out of my house, being stuck at home, and the MESS! Oh my goodness the mess that those people can make! :) It wasn't all that bad, but when ALL of your living space is taken up, including your kitchen, it makes things difficult. Probably worst of all was that my computer had to be moved and so I had no internet connection, which made Pampered Chef needs a little difficult.
One of the solutions, was to put metal strappings up the outside where the two walls meet. To do this our siding had to be removed, the framer came in and did his job, and then the siding went back on. This was by far the easiest as it affected me in no way. We didn't have to be home. In fact, most of it was done while I was gone.

This is the first picture of the beginning of the project. This hole is where they added 2x4 for a supporting post, or whatever you call it. :) haha

Here's the beam and columns framed out. We didn't like the idea of just having a random beam across our ceiling so we had them add the columns in to tie it all together. I actually really like the fact that I have somewhere to hang things in my kitchen with the added wall space and it allows us to break up a paint line from the front room if we so choose. :) I was worried about the space feeling closed in, but it doesn't at all and I actually think it makes the front room seem larger, because it draws your eyes upward making you realize how tall the ceiling is.

Here it is completed. Paint and all.

This is the view from the front room.

My house is put back together, the dust has been cleaned up (after multiple moppings), and life can go back to normal. Oh, and I get to do some decorating. :)

It looks good. I think it was a good idea to have them add the columns. Glad that ordeal is all over. Now you can come visit me and not worry about it!
