5 Years Old

Maddi turning 5 was a weird experience.  5 just seems so old for my little girl.  She is such a cutie though.  She's a great helper to me around the house, is a great big sister, and loves to play!  Anytime weather allows she is out riding her bike.  If she's stuck indoors she loves to watch Netflix, play dogs, play with her dollhouse, or color.  Her little mind has really kicked into high gear this past year and she asks questions about everything!  I think I usually have the answers, but putting them in her terms is usually the trick.  She's been soaking up preschool and is so excited to read!  She is always sounding things out and says, "hey mom, did I just read?!?"  I love it.  I love watching her grow and learn.

For her birthday this year she wanted to do a Snow White theme.  I tried really hard to move away from the Disney Princess thing since we did Cinderella last year, but she was adamant.  Also fueling my efforts in this was the fact that I hadn't found any ideas for a cake, that I felt were possible for me to make, at least.  So, I ended up cheating and bought a personlized edible image on Ebay.  Well, as would be my luck when it comes to my kids' birthday cakes, it didn't show up.  The person I bought it from was very nice and refunded my money, but it was two days before her party and I had NO idea what I was going to do.  (The dumb thing did show up about two weeks later.  So now I have an edible image that says "Happy 5th Birthday Maddi")

The night before I decide that I was just going to do a three tiered round cake in Snow White colors.  I did all my research on reds, so I could actually get red, bought all my cake mixes, got the frosting, and we were ready.  Well, I ended up baking like 5 cakes since one size didn't work... yada...yada...yada...story of my life.  (Don't worry though- I didn't waste the cake.  I made cake balls and froze them.)  I finally got to this point of the cake, and it was okay, but it wasn't great.

So, I decided to be brave, use my own creativity and dress it up a bit.  This is what I got.
Not too bad.  All in all, I was happy, and Maddi thought it was beautiful! :)

Birthday girl

Love these two girls!

Maddi got some more furniture for her dollhouse, played with the friends we had over, and said she loved her birthday.  That's all a mom can hope for.
