The Sledding Disaster

Ryan and I had talked about getting his family all out sledding together at Christmas this year and how much fun it would be.  We should have known better.  Ryan scouted out the perfect place at the dunes.  It's right off the road so you don't have to hike in like we did with my family a few years back.  So, two days after Christmas we loaded up and headed out.  Now, getting a family ready to go sledding is no little task.  So many things to layer on each kid and add a baby into the mix and its quite the production.  But, thanks to my awesome wrap that I made with Carissa (well, really she did most all the work.) Kinsley was all bundled up and snuggled right in next to me.  I was the last one out to the hill, but I got there and luckily started catching some cute pics right away, because little did I know that this trip was going to be very short lived.  About 5 minutes after being out Ryan heads down for his first run on the new tube he had just bought that day with the girls.  I looked over and saw him coming down super fast.  The thought crossed my mind, "oh dear here we go again."  (Back story: A couple months after we were married he broke his two front teeth sledding with my family)  Then, he hit a bump, flew, and landed.  The tube popped and I swore he had landed on his neck the way he fell.  It looked awful.  His mom took off running and my heart started to beat fast.  He finally started to stand up only to collapse back down.  Once we made it to him we thought his arm or hand was broken.  His shoulder/neck was also hurting.  So, off to the E.R. we went.  His dad and brothers-in-law gave him a blessing and we were off.  Of course, after I unbundled me and the baby.  Brynnley had to go the bathroom so she came with us as well.

I do think the rest of the family enjoyed the sledding trip, but unfortunately this story doesn't stop here.  On the very last run down one of our nieces got her hand stuck under a sled and broke her wrist.  These were just the beginnings of a very bad week for the Evans' family.  The very next day Ryan's dad fell off the top of a ladder while getting off his roof.  He bruised his ribs and broke his arm.  That same day Rick's mom, Grandma Evans, fell and broke her hip and had to go into surgery.  Then the next day we had a niece skiing and her last run she fell and broke her leg and tore the ACL away from her knee.  She ended up having surgery as well once back home.

Once we got to the E.R. they ran some X-Rays on Ryan and found out that nothing was broken.  But, they did think he had hurt a tendon or ligament in his hand so we scheduled an appointment with an Orthopedic.  The following week we found out he had torn the UCL in his thumb and would need surgery to repair it.  Him and his dad ended up having surgery on the same day back to back.  :)  Thats another post.
