They say that every birth is different and that couldn't be more true for this one. After having such a great experience with Kinsley's birth I was pretty certain this one would be the same even though I hadn't had as much time to spend on my Hypnobabies. There's always the guessing game of when the baby will come. I never have any indications. Ryan's only request was to not have the baby on Monday, his day off. :) My only request was that it was also after Monday so I could finish up our list, and most importantly, get the grocery shopping done.
We should have known better than to say things like that. Sunday night around 10:30pm, just as I was laying down to go to sleep, my water broke. That was a first! We called the doc, tried to wrap our heads around the fact that we were having a baby now, and then Ryan started to finish up packing the hospital bag. Oh, he also had to get the carseat in the car, and ended up doing a load of laundry, because who knew that you shouldn't keep getting dressed after your water breaks! haha!My contractions started off quite strong and painful from the beginning. I think I knew that this go around was going to be more difficult for me although I was trying to not let myself think that. I was using my hypnobabies and managing pretty well, but about 1am I decided it was time to go to the hospital. I was certain I was pretty far along with how strong the contractions felt. Unfortunately, when I got checked I was only at a 5. I was so tired at this point and just wanted to sleep. Have you ever tried taking a nap in about 2 minute increments? I did, for about 6 hours....it doesn't really work.
I had them give me Fentanol (spelling?) and it really did help to relax me, but by around 6:30am, if I remember right, I was done.
My body was shaking, I was exhausted and starving, and I had been stuck at a 7 for a while. I decided to get an epidural.
I remember being so annoyed at the lady for talking to me about all the risks and wanted to just scream at her to get that needle in me! But, you would never tell from the outside what I was feeling on the inside. :) I'm a duck. I got the epidural and some warm blankets (I hadn't realized how cold I was) and felt my body relax. I was so ready to just go to sleep, when all of a sudden I was ready to push! Just like that. Within minutes of the epidural I was getting ready to have my baby. A few pushes later and Camden Ryan Evans joined our little family!
It certainly wasn't as smooth as the last time, but all went well. We have our healthy boy! And, when they told me he was over 7 lbs. I about died! So many new experiences for us with this one. ;) No matter how they get here, holding your sweet baby for the first time is just one of the most amazing things. Its pretty awesome what we can do. But, don't ask us to order our hospital food when we haven't slept or eaten and just gave birth, because then we end up ordering a piece of toast and three different drinks for breakfast....
