For our ward preparedness activity I made a rocket stove. They are super cool and weren't all that difficult to make...well I did have help from some nice men. :) Basically you take the bucket and cut the hole in it...then there is tubing the curves upward and comes out the top. You put this thermal rock stuff or something like that in it and then put the lid on and caulk everything. You can then store your supplies such as matches, wood, paper and what not in the top. You use wood through the front hole to heat and control the temperature by putting wood in and taking it out. Hope that makes sense. We still need to buy a metal grill top to put over it so you can set pots on it. I also learned how to make a yummy Palestine stew (its like Chili) as well as cooking wheat to make cereal. I love all that we have been able to learn from our ward with these activities. We always leave with some great ideas.

That's quite the setup!
You make me wish I lived in a family ward!
I tell ya what though, cuttig the tin caused some major hand cramping! It was tough. But not only is it good for cooking it puts off heat also. I am excited about it. I want to make the oven one now . . .
