Boise Trip: Swimming Lessons

I was so incredibly nervous about putting Maddi in swimming lessons.  I knew that it was time for her to take them, but this girl does NOT like water.  Well, I guess I should say that she doesn't like water on her face.  She enjoys playing in it as long as her face stays dry.  This applies to a bathtub as well.  So, I had no idea what to expect.  I was pretty sure we would have at least one major meltdown.  So, I prepared myself and gave her the best chance to succeed.
My sisters have taught swimming lessons for quite a few years and I figured she would be more willing to try some new things if she felt comfortable with the teachers.  So, I got lucky and had two of my sisters as her teachers.  The catch was that they teach in Boise.  :)  So, we made a trip out of it.
As Maddi has begun to do as she's gotten older, she surprised me.  No meltdowns to speak of the first day.  It was, however, too good to be true.  haha  The first few days she was willing to try things.  She did a bob, she even dove down and got some rings.  But, when she realized that they expected her to do that EVERY day she wanted nothing to do with it.  By the second week, she didn't even want to get in the pool.  But, the lady that runs the swimming lessons is amazing.  Within a couple minutes of talking with Maddi she had her laughing and willing to sit on the steps of the pool.  It only took a few more minutes for Maddi to realize that she wanted to get in all the way.
Although she never really swam with her face in the water, and cried almost every time she had to jump off the diving board, she did it!  She went and tried and it was as much as I could have asked of her.  I think we made some progress.  And, I was able to sit in the sun and work on my tan (without a two year old).  Win, win!
