Something thats been bothering me...

Okay...I will be doing a "fun" post here soon, but I've been debating on this post for a while now. I've decided I have to say it though. Why is it that when Maddi's hair gets cut lots of people comment, but when I ask people to talk about anything "political" hardly anybody comments? (Thanks to those who did) I know there could be lots of reasons...maybe you don't agree with my views and didn't want to say anything-ok thats fine, although I respect everyone's opinion. Thats what is so great about this country. We ALL get an opinion. So, does the lack of response mean you don't care, I sure hope not. This is our country and if we don't care about it who will? I am completelly serious when I say that we have been silent for too long! So, if anyone feels so inclined I would LOVE to hear your opinions. I realize that some of you do have thoughts on these topics, but just didn't comment. I'm not trying to make accusations just start some conversation. If you don't have an opinion, sorry for being harsh, but its about time you started paying attention and caring about the world around you. I don't care what your opinion is, just have one and don't be afraid to voice it. Okay, I'm off my soapbox.

I think for me it is a time issue. It is a whole lot quicker to comment "cute bangs" than to go research or watch a video on my own then come back and leave a comment with my opinion. I have the 9/12 page bookmarked so I can go through it eventually like I want to. I don't want to just skim over it and get nothing out of it. I need peace and quiet to really do that. But peace and quiet is something I don't get a lot of these days. If I do get it, I'm probably sleeping! But I do think you are right, we need to stand up for our rights. I don't like a lot of what is happening with our country and I do want to get more involved, but I just can't right now. Hopefully when the babies are a little less dependent I will be able to spare some more time for it. (For example, it is taken me about 30 minutes to post this comment-between burping one baby, changing the other one's diaper, printing a coloring page out for Ali, responding to most of her "mommy, watch me..." My life is just chaotic right now...and I have good babies! I couldn't imagine if they were colicky!) Thanks for being adamant about it though, that is how other people get involved and it is something that needs to happen. I will join you soon! :)

I will have to agree, it is a time issue for me too. I have really enjoyed your political posts and have watched the videos and stuff, but forget to come back and say anything. I think that it is great that you are getting so involved...we should all follow you in standing up for what we beleive in.

I certainly agree that it's important that we stand up for our rights. You may think I'm a horrible person for saying this but I would much rather take care of myself and my family. To be honest I don't even watch the news anymore, so I'll just live in blissful ignorance. Plus I have a hard enough time getting my house cleaned, the laundry done, keeping up with my kids, working and fulfilling my church calling to be totally involved with politics. Sorry.

You make me laugh! I don't comment because I feel the same way, and don't have much to add to what you say. I'll stand and fight with you!

Thanks for always keeping us in check. I always talk about needing to be invovled and be a good citizen, and I need to follow your example more and actually do something. I can say that I feel the same way about my Darfur stuff. Anytime I bring it up or send things to people they usually laugh at me and say "there goes Carissa on one of her tangents again". Sometimes it is hard for other people to understand when it is not something that speaks to them directly. Its kind of like the gospel: before you gain a testimony of something it is hard to really make it part of your life. And also like the gospel, the more you share your views and encourage us to get involved, the more likely we are to have an experience or read something that will make it personal for us and get us involved as well. So thanks!

Go Mandi, Go Mandi, Go Mandi, (picture hands moving in a circle and a cute little booty shake) Just so you know, your Dad has sent a letter to the governor regarding the gas taxes he wants to increase and is on the phone right now with our representative letting him know to hold the line on the governors bullying. You keep going and we'll join you. But seriously, Maddi's hair is cute and who could resist commenting on it.

Ummm. I think it's because Maddi is cute. Politics aren't. Lol. J/K. I would agree with Kayci...that I kinda just agree with you and think you do an awesome job putting so much into words!

I think it's because politics has brought religion in so hard, like a second string defense - and I disagree with that. I understand the importance of being aware of the things going on around you, but I don't want that spilling in to my spiritual experience. My point is that God is love. Politics is not (even close). I stay out of the political arena for that reason. I really respect what you're doing though!

I think everyone who says they don't have time is going to find they don't have time for anything when their government crumbles and complete chaos breaks out before their eyes while they do nothing.

I do love Maddi more than politics. :) I think the reason why I don't go out of my way to talk politics is because Ber and I are ALWAYS talking it in some way or another and that's where I get my fill.

We have become apathetic. In the past what happened in Washington didn't affect us in this way and we don't know how to respond. Bottom line is we have moved away from a govt of the people. Make up any excuse you want for not taking action: family, time, ignorance, etc but don't complain about where we're headed b/c unless you are standing up for something you are standing up for nothing. I am pregnant with my 5th child, that is 5 kids in 5 years and I still make an effort to write my representatives b/c I love my country and I know we can be better. I care.
