She wants a doggy

A few days ago Maddi explained to me in the car that she needed a doggy. One like Pongo and Wrigley (our neighbor's dog). By this meaning a REAL dog! I told her we had to have a fence first before getting a dog, but she just replied by saying "But I NEED one!" The conversation ended and that was that.
Then the next day we were in Wal-Mart walking through the baby section and she saw the wood gates. My parents use these for their dog to keep him in certain areas when they are gone and we used them as well while he stayed with us. So, Maddi sees them and says "Oh, mom we need one of those for my doggy too." I was surprised she was continuing with this notion that she was getting a dog and that she realized the need for a gate. It made me laugh and once again I just told her we couldn't get a dog yet.
Then yesterday she again started talking to me about needing a doggy. This time I explained that I didn't have enough money to pay for a dog right now. She quickly says, "I can give you some more money!" She then jumps up and runs to her room. She returns with this handful of change for me.

You know, if we could get a dog now I might have just broken down and said okay at this point. She now frequently talks to me about needing to get a bed for her doggy and some food. She thinks of new things frequently. At least she does understand to some extent what it means to have a dog. :) She's always liked dogs, but I'm not really sure where this new obsession with having her own has come from. Hopefully she'll be content to wait just a little while longer.
